President Trump is on record as tagging Snowden "a terrible threat" and "a terrible traitor", and insinuating that Snowden should be executed for what he's done. But now President Trump himself is personally ensnared in the exact unconstitutional offense Snowden claims he patriotically acted to expose, so the President should honestly have a more dear and clear interest in Snowden's personal testimony being publicly aired under oath.
President Trump has done the nation a great service by publicly calling-out the surveillance he claims to have been conducted upon him, and insisting Congress investigates. But the practical problem with that is Congress is the very body which has legislated the draconian, unconstitutional permissions which now have the nation aghast: how possibly can Congress objectively investigate when they're already complicit in conflicts of interest concerning the issue?
When was it, exactly, that America went from being a nation of law where all are presumed innocent until proven guilty, to a purely statist state where all are at least suspect until proven innocent; where unalienable due process is as easily denied a possible patriotic whistleblower as drone dropping a bomb on an American citizen is without any trial whatsoever?
This despicable unconstitutionalism cannot be allowed to stand any longer.
The President should direct Attorney General Sessions to work with Snowden's legal representatives to reach agreement that Edward Snowden voluntarily returns to America to face serious criminal charges for the crimes the federal government deems he has committed against it - but minus all charges which fall under the Espionage Act. This is the only way Edward Snowden can possibly receive a fair and honest trial in his own native land, a trial that is now crying out so loudly for constitutional American justice.
President Trump, as Chief Executive, should publicly guarantee Edward Snowden will receive a fair and honest trial; Senator Rand Paul and Representative Justin Amash should further lend constitutional guarantee by proclaiming Congress, too, will champion American citizen Edward Snowden's unalienable right to full, complete, fair and honest Amendment IV due process.
It's time for Edward Snowden to come home. It's time for American justice to be served. It's time for the People to know the truth.
